OLD TOWNHALL
This Gothic-Renaissance building is from the 14th century. It forms a natural dominant feature of the historical Old square. Originally a middle-age building burnt out four times, so its current look is a result of numerous reconstructions. Gothic origins can be seen on the massive perimeter walls with arcades and middle-age cellars. Renaissance features were applied after the fire in the 16th century. In these times the prominent square clock tower was built. The tower is decorated with the town emblem and reliefs. Three hundred years later, the building gained its Neo-gothic look. The entrance space of the townhall holds the hall of town councillors, which is nowadays used as the town´s ceremony room for weddings. The pride of the building is a preserved fragment of original Renaissance painting with a Latin inscription that says: “No decision is made by the judge, if the prosecutor judges.” The built-in Classicist staircase leads into the attic, appreciated by artists and visitors as a pleasant exposition and concert space.
