CHATEAU PARK
Julius Jindřich, duke of Saxen-Lauenburg, established this garden in 1625. He was the owner of Ostrov´s dominion at that time. Its first layout referred to early Baroque Italian gardens, using numerous water elements and many sculptural decorations. Later owners, Franziska Sibylla Augusta and her husband Ludwig Wilhelm, finished the adjustments according to French style. This garden was the first of such gardens in Czech lands and it became a model for many other gardens in the country as well as abroad. Visitors could feel as if they were walking the courtyard of Louis XIV. There were artificial rocks, orangeries with animals, a garden theatre, a maze, skittles ground, summer houses, lakes and numerous water areas with fountains. In this time the park was called the “Eighth wonder of the world. By the end of the 18th century, it was slowly turning into a natural landscape park. Most buildings and decorations had been removed, pieces of art have been sold or gradually destroyed. A significant renovation took place in 2007.Two replicas of original pools were placed by the southern façade and in the surroundings of the Summer residence its original layout was indicated.

There is an educational path called “Chateau stops” and a virtual project “Revived lands of Krušné hory”.
When you visit, you may feed and observe local squirrels.
