THE CHATEAU
OF OSTROV
The chateau of Ostrov was established on the premises of a castle from the 13th century. The Renaissance shape of the building was acquired after the renovations made by Kašpar Šlik, who had his family residence set up here on the turn of the 15th and 16th century. The most significant changes to the looks of the chateau were made by Julius František, duke of Saxon-Lauenburg, who invited famous builders of his time (Abraham Leuthner, Kryštof Dientzenhofer and Giulio Broggi) in the second half of the 17th century. A new chateau, so-called Lauenburg, was added to the original one. After the fire of 1691 the Šlik chateau was turned into a side wing. Current looks of the chateau is a result of adjustments and modifications made by Tuscan dukes during the 19th and 20th century. The emblem of imperial eagle refers to these renovations. You can see it above the main entrance. The building was a seat of local industrial high school (1962–2012). A reconstruction carried out between 2012–2014 amounted to almost 200 million crowns. The building was then awarded the prize of  “Building of the Karlovy Vary region” in 2015.
